Benicar (Olmesartan)
General information
Benicar is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow, in adults and children who are at least 6 years old.
Directions
Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results. Take this medication with a full glass of water, with or without meal. Your blood pressure will need to be checked often. Visit your doctor regularly. Keep using this medicine as directed, even if you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms. You may need to use blood pressure medication for the rest of your life. If you need surgery, tell the surgeon ahead of time that you are using this drug.
Precautions
Don't use this medication if you are allergic, have eruption, heart, kidney or liver illnesses or if you are unable to urinate. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Also don't drink alcohol and control the using of water.
Contraindications
Avoid using this medicine if you are allergic, have eruption, heart, kidney or liver illnesses or if you are unable to urinate. Stop using it if you become pregnant, as the drug can cause harm to the unborn baby. It can pass into breast milk and may hurt a nursing baby.
Possible side effect
The medicine may cause kidney illness, sickliness, giddy, eruption, headache, dry cough, unusual urinating, abdomen pain, retching, diarrhea, jaundice and some allergic reaction. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.
Drug interactions
Tell your doctor about all medications you use. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor. Avoid using drinks with caffeine or alcohol, smoking, or illegal medicines.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Call emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms may be break heartbeat or giddiness.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature. Store away from moisture and light.
